At the venue, Gabriel finished 5th (30.23s) in heat 1 of the 50m butterfly on Monday (17 November); his time was not enough to put him through to the A final in hopes of medaling. He went on to clock 30.16s, 1.03s faster than his qualifying time, to finish 7th in the B final on Tuesday (18 November).

In his other race, the men’s 50m freestyle, he finished 6th (28.34s) in heat 2 and 8th (28.73s) in the B final.

The other Grenadian swimmer, Gabrielle Paparo competed in the women’s 100m butterfly on Tuesday (18 November). She finished 11th overall – 6th in heat 2 in 1:24.35 and 3rd in the B final in 1:20.85.

The 15-year-old began her medal quest in the women’s 200m freestyle on Sunday (16 November). She ended 7th in heat 2 (2:33.37); Paparo’s time did not earn her a spot in the A final. However, she did not compete in the B final of the women’s 200m freestyle.
