High Level PAHO delegation to visit Grenada

ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, SUNDAY, 16 NOVEMBER, 2014 - (GIS): _ A high-level delegation of health and safety experts from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is due to arrive in Grenada on Monday for an assessment of the country’s Ebola preparations and management plan.


When the delegation arrives they will hold discussions with Health Minister - Dr. Claris Modeste-Curwen, Permanent Secretary - Ms. Myrna Hagley and Chief Medical Officer - Dr. George Mitchell, before conducting their relevant assessments.

The four member team of experts is also expected to meet with stakeholders and divisional managers before visiting and conducting assessments of the proposed isolation site, General Hospital, Laboratory and Accident & Emergency departments.

While in Grenada there will be a coordination and mobilization of the Ministry’s resources, which will include budget and public education and awareness.

Health officials and allied stakeholders are expected to have a tight schedule as the delegation meet with committee members from the Epidemiology, Surveillance & Laboratory, and Clinical Case Management which includes infection prevention and control.

One of the important aspects of the visit is a fieldtrip to entry points – Maurice Bishop International Airport, St. George’s Sea Ports, all main Health Centers and Princess Alice Hospital, which are in accordance with International Health Regulations (IHR).

Health officials say the team will also assess and identify areas of training, before the debriefing meeting with top ministerial managers planned for Wednesday morning.
