Grenada Olympic Committee received ANOC Award for Breakthrough NOC at London 2012

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 12 November, 2014 – Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Religious Affairs: Grenada Olympic Committee was one of seven National Olympic Committees (NOCs) that received ANOC Award for Breakthrough NOC at London 2012.

The inaugural Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Gala Award Dinner was held on Friday, 07 November, in Bangkok, Thailand.

The event was the first of its kind by ANOC to honour the exceptional achievements made by NOCs and athletes across all sporting disciplines from all over the world.

According to ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, “Our first ever ANOC Gala Awards Dinner tonight was a spectacular celebration of sport and world culture .There is no other event in the world which recognizes the hard work of National Olympic Committees. ANOC is absolutely committed to supporting NOC best practice and celebrating the successes of our Olympic family.”

At the award gala, Sheikh Ahmad revealed that the ANOC Gala Awards Dinner will become a regular event in the Olympic calendar with each future Games due to have its own Awards ceremony.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Grenada Olympic Committee was the General Secretary, Mrs. Veda Bruno-Victor. The award was presented due to Grenada’s Kirani James becoming the nation’s first ever Olympic Champion when he won gold in the 400m at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The other six National Olympic Committees winning Breakthrough NOC at London 2012 are from Guatemala, Montenegro, Botswana, Gabon, Cyprus, and Bahrain
