ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, May 19, 204 – GIS: Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell affirmed that an extensive Road Work Program will be launched in August – following the Carnival season – to provide jobs for the many who have been finding it difficult, during the tight economic situation.

The Prime Minister was disheartened that the usual Road Work Program over the Easter Holidays did not take place for the first time in several years because there was no money for the important venture.

Dr. Mitchell, who was the Minister of Works between 1984 and 1989 and leader of the country from 1995 to 2008, said that the annual Easter Road Work Program had to be put on hold because of the tight economic situation.

PM Mitchell said, however, that the government’s efforts to stabilize and revive the economy are encouraging, noting that things are being turned around with an extensive Road Work Program scheduled in August.

A confident Prime Minister told residents of St John’s, at the Constituency Forum, that the program is returning in a big way.

“Come August, you will see a serious Road Program. We are going to have a better August that we have ever had in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique,” PM Mitchell said to a rousing applause.

He indicated that road work has already started in some areas with the CCC project on the ball.

“We have started with limited resources. When the resources improve we will be doing much more. We have given CCC some significant sums despite the hardship and they are now working at the pace they should have started.”

Dr. Mitchell said that his government is bent on improving the country’s network of roads, which were abandoned and left to decay by the previous NDC Administration, indicating that all of this is about the change.
