ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, JULY 16, 2014 - GIS: On Monday, July 14, officials from the Desk of the Elderly - Ministry of Social Development and Housing, paid a special visit to a St. Andrew resident, to celebrate her impressive life achievement.

Myra Phillip, who lives in Riverlett Lane, Grenville, marked the coveted age of 104years on Saturday, July 12, 2014.

Ms. Phillip, better known as ‘Aunty’ by most, was all smiles and hugs when the Ministry officials step into her sitting room on Monday morning bearing a gift basket and flowers, that immediately caught the centenarian’s eye.

At her age, she boasts of a clean bill of health, save occasional sight problems.

Ms. Phillip also has a very good appetite for someone her age, says her Care-giver of six years, Valerie Smart. In fact, “her favourite food is macaroni pie and cake.” Both of which she had on her birthday.

During the day, Ms. Phillip enjoys listening to the Harbour Light Radio station and reading her favourite book, the Holy Bible.

Although, she is not a biological mother, she has ‘adopted’ many children in and around Grenville, her Care-giver related.

Back in her days, she co-owned a store in the Town of Grenville along with her sister, who has since passed on. To this day, the centenarian fancies getting ‘dolled up’ in her colourful dresses and jewelry. She also enjoys chatting with visitors.

Ms. Smart said she truly values the time spent caring for Ms. Phillip. “I actually miss her when I go home,” she said, smiling.

Ms. Phillip is one of the 17 centenarians, who have received ‘birthday visits’ from the Desk of the Elderly between the months of January to July, 2014.
