ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, January 29, 2014 – GIS: Grenadian students in Cuba say they are pleased with the decision by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell to visit them despite his packed schedule.

Prime Minister Mitchell made it his first order of business to visit the students on his first evening in Havana.

The Grenadian leader met the students at one central university in the Cuban capital.

"The fact that the Prime Minister has stopped by to express his support and to listen to our concerns even though he has a tightly packed schedule for the CELAC summit speaks volumes and gives us the courage to go on. Knowing that the Government is on our side." declared one Grenadian student who attended.

Among the few concerns expressed by students included a request to both governments to allow those leaving Grenada to carry more luggage.

There was also a request for medical students to be given volunteer and internship opportunities with medical practitioners and institutions in Grenada during their vacations.

Prime Minister Mitchell, in expressing his support to the students, reminded them that no one has to sell to him on the need to provide for them abroad.

The Prime Minister said that he understands and encourages their sacrifices and quest for betterment, knowing very well that without education "he will not be where he is today."

The Prime Minister also reminded students of the need to follow and participate in events at home, such as the Government's recent initiative toward Constitutional reform because, according to him, "this is their future for which government is bargaining."

The Prime Minister who is in Cuba for the summit of the leaders of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), was accompanied on his visit to the students by Grenada's Ambassador to Cuba, Ms. Claris Charles.
