Tourism Minister attends CHTA “Caribbean Marketplace” in Jamaica

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 – GIS: The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) "Caribbean Marketplace" is the regions's largest hospitality and tourism trade show. This year's event was held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, Jamaica from January 12 - 14, 2014.

The Most Honorable Portia Simpson Miller, Prime Minister of Jamaica and former Minister of Tourism, officially declared the Conference open on Sunday, January 13, 2014.

The conference attracted 12 Ministers of Tourism from the Caribbean region and brought together Buyers from over 20 countries, spanning Europe; USA; Latin America and the Caribbean, with suppliers of tourism and services from across the region.

Over 45 appointments were scheduled for the two-day period. Minister Otway-Noel held meetings with several Buyers, including British Airways, Air Canada Vacations, Delta Airlines, Transat Holidays, Caribbean Airlines, Virgin Holidays, Classic Vacations, Condor, Trip Advisor, Caradonna Dive Adventures, Orbitz, MLT Vacations, Conde Nast Traveler and Martha Stewart Weddings.

The Tourism Minister also conducted interviews with Travel Mole, Caribbean Journals and Selling Long Haul, providing the media with an in-depth update on Grenada as a destination including the formation of the Grenada Tourism Authority on January 2, 2014.

Grenada's delegation for the CHA Caribbean Marketplace is led by Hon. Alexandra Otway-Noel, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation & Culture. Other participants include, Mr. Sheldon Keens-Douglas, Director of Marketing and Ms. Christine Noel-Horsford, Manager of Projecting & Reporting.

Representatives from the Private Sector include, Spice Island Beach Resort, Blue Horizons Garden Resort, Flamboyant Hotel & Villas, Mount Cinnamon, Calabash, and True Blue Bay Resort.
