Reconstruction of the Top Hill Senior Citizens Home progessing smoothly

Beausejour, Carriacou, February 5, 2014-
Significant progress is being made on the reconstruction of the Top Hill Senior Citizens Home in Carriacou.

Work began in December 2013 and according to the latest consultant’s report, it is ahead of schedule.


A recent site visit was conducted by Consultant Timothy Bubb, Community Liaison Officer at the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) Devon Britton and Officials of the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs.


With a completion date set for September 2014, Contractor Bernard Lendore of Lendore’s Construction said that so far work has been progressing smoothly, work is now being done on the storage area and preparation is being made for placement of the floor slabs.


Matron of the Home Hyacinth Bedeau said residents are looking forward to returning to the home’s original base; from since 2009 they were relocated to the Nurses’ Hostel in Belair. She thanked the community for their continuous support towards the home.


The project is being funded to the tune of EC$1.3 million by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) with counterpart funding provided by the Government of Grenada.


During the sod turning ceremony which took place on November 29th, 2013; Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs Hon. Elvin Nimrod expressed gratitude to BNTF and CDB for supporting such a project; as it is important to provide proper facilities for the care of the elderly.

Meanwhile, work on the Princess Royal Hospital water tank is completed, it was constructed with funds provided by the Basic Needs Trust Fund.
