It is with deep sadness and a sense of loss that we learnt of the passing of a great man, a hero, a man for the people of Venezuela and, of Latin America and the Caribbean, President Hugo Chávez of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Venezuela has been an astounding supporter of Grenada and its people, … the gift of the Simón Bolívar Housing Project in St. David, the refurbishment of the St. George's Market and the Roy St. John Recreational Ground, and the benefits from Petro Caribe have all been made possible for Grenada because of the love that President Chávez had for the Grenadian people.

He was an amazing leader in the Latin American Community, especially through the organization of CELAC, he will be truly missed.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, Government and people of Grenada we express our heartfelt condolences to his family, the Government and People of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Our Venezuelan brothers and sisters can count on our strong hand of friendship.
