St. George’s Grenada, Friday 22nd February, 2013, MOEPRU – The annual Primary schools’ Mental Mathematics Competition will be launched on February 28th, 2013 at the Hermitage Government School.
Teachers are encouraged to start Mental Arithmetic activities in their classes immediately. Simple cards with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts can be made available for students to quiz each other in the classroom.
Principals are urged to bring this circular to the particular attention of Mathematics Head of Departments, Mathematics Coordinators and Specialists Mathematics Teachers.
The Annual Mental Mathematics competition is held in collaboration with Pearsons Publishing and targets Grade 6 students.
The competition, comprise three sections: Mental Arithmetic, Math jeopardy and Inter-active (CPM) math program and is held on school, district and national levels.
Its objective is to sustain academic interest especially in mathematics, heighten teachers’ awareness of the usefulness of interactive programs in the teaching/learning process and motivate students in a fun way towards greater achievement in mathematics.
The Ministry is urging schools to embrace the opportunity to encourage improved performance in mathematics nationwide.
