GIS presents legacy of a friend to Venezuela

St. George's, Grenada, 2 April, 2013: A copy of a television feature paying tribute to former Venezueland president Hugo Chavez has been presented to the country's Charge de Affaires in Grenada.
Minister with responsibility for Information Sen. Winston Garraway presented the copy of the locally produced documentary feature entitled "Legacy of a Friend", to Charge De affaires Venezia Martinez Rocca.
The 30 minute television programme, produced in the wake of the passing of the Venezuelan president after a two year battle with cancer, was produced by the Government Information Service (GIS) of Grenada.
The Information Minister said Grenada has benefitted tremendously through the cooperation that exist between the two countries especially when they provided relief after the destruction of the island by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
"It was indeed sad to learn of the passing, (of Chavez) knowing what he has demonstrated over the years in terms of reaching out to the region", said Sen. Garraway.
The feature, which premiered on the GIS Channel on Good Friday, examines Chavez's legacy in Grenada and Venezuela's role in assisting the spice island.
Charge de affaires Rocca, said a copy of the "Legacy of a Friend" will be aired on Venezuelan television as well as delivered to the country's president Nicholas Madura.
Moved by the production, she expressed thanks to the people of Grenada for this gesture in the moment of their loss.
"The people of Venezuela will be happy by the evidence that shows that President Chavez did a great job in the region," said the Venezuelan Charge de affaires in Grenada, Venezia Martinez Rocca.
"It will make us feel more comfortable in this situation".
