Hillsborough, Carriacou, December 12th, 2011- The grounds of the Hillsborough Market were transformed on Sunday, December 11th into a mini- Christmas village as groups from throughout Carriacou and Petite Martinique serenaded the audience there with a variety of Christmas carols.

They participated in the Division of Culture within the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs “Christmas in the Gardens” event.

The activity which commenced with steel pan music by students of the Petite Martinique RC School can be dubbed “a night to remember”.

It saw performances by a number of groups and individuals which included Akida Muller, Lesrine Williams, Kizzy and Shian John from Hillsborough Secondary School and the Petite Martinique Church Choir who always thrill the crowd with their vibrant performance.

The old time way of serenading was also brought to the fore, members of the Carriacou Historical Society led by President Cosnel McIntosh went through the grounds with candlelight; singing Christmas carols like “ O Come all ye Faithful and Silent Night.”

Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs Senator George Prime took the opportunity to bring Christmas greetings and asked of the citizens of Carriacou and Petite Martinique to take time and reflect on the reason for the season, which is the birth of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
