St. George’s December 08th 2011: Passengers travelling to Grenada from Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Thursday morning were all smiles as they were afforded the opportunity to fly aboard a brand new ATR turbo from Caribbean Airlines (CAL).

The 68-seater is the latest in a fleet of new aircraft to be introduced by the company.

Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Peter David, who toured the aircraft on its arrival at Maurice Bishop International Airport, says this development consolidates CAL's commitment to improved service to Grenada.

“Caribbean Airlines continues to prove its importance to our tourism industry,'' David said. "The airline recently commenced flights between Grenada and Canada and now they have graced us with brand new aircraft.''

The Tourism Minister described Caribbean Airlines as a "definite life saver'' to local and regional tourism.

"We cannot underestimate their importance to tourism,” he said.

Captain Rafael Rose, who flew the first in the ATR fleet to Grenada, called the aircraft the most modern and fuel-efficient in the aviation industry.

The ATR 800 is equipped with inflight movie screens and, according to Rose, is as comfortable and user-friendly as possibly can be.

He said Caribbean Airlines intends to use its new fleet to service the route involving not just Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago, but also Caracas in Venezuela.

CAL is also considering to soon introduce the fleet to Barbados, Rose revealed.
