The Parenting Unit of the Ministry of Social Development, the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) and others involved in a child protection initiative held during the recent carnival celebrations are describing the exercise as a success.
The “Spicy Parent Programme,” launched in July, focused on promoting effective parenting skills.
Reports from the Community Relations Department of the RGPF revealed that no one, specifically children, or was abandoned during the carnival season.
Woman Police Constable, Frank Andrew, said public sensitization resulted in a marked success in this year’s “Spicy Parent Programme’’ when compared with 2009.
“We, at the RGPF, say we stand to protect and serve and so we will continue to do that as much as possible,” she affirmed.
Although carnival is over, there will be no waning in the sensitization programme, WPC Andrew said. It will continue year-round and heightened during festive periods, she promised.
The Constable commended the enthusiasm of those who participated in the campaign, and expressed appreciation at the positive relations and growing solidarity between the RGPF and the public.
The Ministry of Social Development, in a statement, said it applauded the efforts of all who contributed to the success of the 2010 “Spice Parent Programme.’’ It said it looks forward to continuing support with its parenting sensitization campaign.
