Director of Peace Corps visit Shelter for battered Women
Monday May 12, 2008 St George’s, The World Director of the United States Peace Corps Mr Ronald Tschetter made a special visit to the Shelter for Battered Women in Grenada on Monday May 12, 2008.
During his visit to the Shelter Mr. Tschetter met with Staff, Residents, members of the Board of Directors and the Coordinator of the Domestic Violence Unit from the Ministry of Social Development. The Peace Corps head also got the opportunity to witness first hand the daily operation of the shelter.
Speaking during Monday’s tour Mr Tschetter said that the Peace Corps will continue to provide support to the Shelter. Currently there is one Peace Corps attach to the Shelter.
Tschetter said, it is the aim of the Peace Corps to bring about positive change in the lives of persons throughout the world and his organization will do all that it can to help enhance the lives of the women who used the Shelter in an effort to uplift and empower themselves.
The delegation was highly impressed as Residents and Staff showed their appreciation through songs and poetry. The contingent also met with Peace Corps volunteers in their communities and workplaces during the one day visit that ended on May 13, 2008.
Peace Corps volunteers have been assisting in communities and workplaces in Grenada for years.
