Department of Youth Development prepares for Quarterly National Youth Service Day
Friday April 18th, 2008: Community development through Youth Service is of utmost importance to the Department of Youth Development and so it will host yet another of its tri-annual National Youth Service Day activities on April 25th, 26th and 27th 2008.
National Youth Service Day provides an opportunity for community development through the involvement and participation of residents.
All community youth groups, church youth organizations, clubs, schools and non-attached groups are encouraged to undertake a project that will benefit their community, school, church.
The types of projects include:
- Community beautification
- Health fairs
- Care for the elderly among others
Minister with responsibility for Youth Development, Senator the Honourable Emmalin Pierre encourages all youth organisations to participate in the activities. She said that youth participation in National Youth Service Day is a good way of demonstrating positive attitudes among young people through their involvement in this community development initiative. She also said that the activity contributes to the spirit of volunteerism and helps build young persons self-esteem.
Project Officer in the Department with responsibility for National Youth Ser vice Day, Mr. Johnny Calliste, described the upcoming events as being important. He says it brings together young people throughout the tri-island state who are making significant contributions towards youth and community development and Youth Service. He encourages all young persons to participate in the activities.
The Department invites all groups to register in this important community development initiative.
