Grenada Represented at Regional Conference on Women
Monday April 14, 2008 St. Georges, Gender Consultant with the Ministry of Social Development, Mrs. Thourla Friday represented Grenada at a Regional Workshop on Strengthening National Women’s Machineries (NWM) for Monitoring and Evaluation and follow up on Women Affairs Ministers Meeting (8WAMM)
The event held at the Jolly Beach Resort Antigua was organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Public Administration and Empowerment of Antigua and Barbuda.
The focus of the workshop was on background and overview of Monitoring and Evaluation of Gender and Empowerment of Women: Challenges, Harmonization and the way forward along with scenario of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Plan of Action in the Caribbean.
A practical approach to Monitoring and Evaluation on Gender Equality and Equity in the Caribbean.
The workshop cover countries mandates, position, resources and roles of NWMs and provide them with a forum where they can share with others strategies that have worked to make NWM effective especially in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Commonwealth Plan of Action on Gender Equality.
The review is critical for NWMs if they are to be seen to operate as strategic players in the gender mainstreaming process, so that they are able to oversee and ensure that gender mainstreaming does take place at all levels and in all structures of government and development.
The workshop which runs from April 1 to 5, will further address the capacity of NWMs to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Commonwealth Plan of Action as outlined in the Monitoring and Evaluation Framework that was adopted at 8WAMM by the Ministers.
It is believed that through the exchange of information, views and expert knowledge participants will be able to make practical proposals for further action in monitoring and evaluation of gender equality in countries throughout the region.
