Minister for Works Expresses her Appreciation to the Business Community
Friday 25th April 24, 2008, St. George’s: Minister for Communication, Works and Transport, Sen. the Hon. Brenda Hood, met with members of the St. George’s business community on Thursday April 24th 2008 to show her appreciation for their contribution towards the overall development of the capital city over the years.
The meeting, which was the first of its kind for the year, took place in the form of a luncheon upstairs Spices Restaurant, Deyna’s City Inn. It provided members of the business community with an opportunity to voice their concerns and enhance the ongoing relationship with the Ministry of Works and the Government as a whole.
In addressing the very large gathering, Minister Hood stressed the importance on brand building and outlined a plan of action for the future enhancement of the nation’s capital, which included the establishment of night-time side walk cafes on the Carenage; Street-side native cuisine on selected nights; culture-yards on weekends; art, craft and music villages; side-walk comedy shows that will attract young people, visitors and artistes; the establishment of a serious inner-city management committee; better garbage disposal, especially in the vicinity of the market; and the creation of green spaces, tree and flower planting.
The Minister noted that the commercial district within the town of St. George is poised to benefit through the multiplier effect of increased consumption spending as a result of the liberalized investment climate and opportunities created by Government. Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, who also attended the event, applauded the members of the business community for working closely with his Government over the years.
Dr. Mitchell noted that the peaceful investment climate his Government has created for local and foreign investors, is one that should not be underestimated given the fact that hundreds of Grenadians are already benefiting as a result of jobs created, thus complimenting the Government’s vision for a better Grenada.
However, Dr. Mitchell warned that without the existence of a peaceful and stabilized climate, these benefits can be threatened and negatively affected.
The members of the business community pledged their full support for the Government’s plans for a better Grenada. They expressed their willingness to work closely with Government and commended Prime Minister Mitchell and his team for the work they have spearheaded in ensuring that Grenadians enjoy the benefits of the investments and development taking place countrywide.
At the end of the meeting the investors were awarded certificates of appreciation for their continuous support and commitment towards the overall development of the business community.
The event was also attended by other Ministers of Government and ministerial representatives.
